Accomplished multi-instrumentalist, Nandi is a beat
architect, pulling together soul, jazz, trip-hop and underground new york vibes.
Growing up in Trinidad, CA, his early years were strongly influenced by SoCal punk and
surf music. The disco times: Village People, the Bee Gees, and Saturday Night Fever raised his
interest in the New York scene. He particularly remembers the song "Roxanne" pushing him
to devote his life to the passion and entering full-force into the music industry. After
a good dose of feel-good in CA, he moved to
New York City and attended the School of Performing Arts. Immediately his music
started incorporating indigenous New York vibes and sounds: Brooklyn beats, wild-style
era graffiti, and music from his home turf, Astoria Queens. CBGBs is his performance home, having performed
there countless times.
Writer and performer, his work has included collaborations with Maxi Priest, Mocean Worker,
Lordz of Brooklyn, Bumpy Knuckles (aka Freddie Fox) and Danny Boy from House of Pain.
Walking away with a suitcase full of cash from working Armand Van Helden and Ganja Cru
for BMG's War remix project, Nandi releases his first project, Once for the Mind in
May 2002, and his success is heard all across the country.
Influences include Santana, Paul Desmond, Seal, Sade, Massive Attack, Bob Marley,
the Marx Brothers, Steel Pulse, Miles Davis and Ravi Shankar
His music has uniquely defined itself over the years, blending styles in an eclectic manner true to his background.
